Strategic Planning
and Value Discovery

Dittmar Associates is currently supporting the
NASA Johnson
Space Center Advanced Planning Office, providing input to strategic
planning and communications approaches, and leading a Value Discovery process.
In addition, we are providing specialized consulting on the challenges and
potential of engaging and mentoring
"Gen
Y", preparing them to be future leaders at JSC and in the nation's space
program
Strategic Planning,
Research, and Communications

Beginning in 2004, Dittmar Associates carried out a number of
self-funded studies to assess public perception of NASA and its missions, as
well as space exploration in general. The Market Study for Space
Exploration and subsequent work describing the attitudes of young
Americans toward space identified relevance of the space program to our
daily lives as the single most important attribute affecting public perception
of the U.S. Space Program.
In 2007, NASA reached out to Dittmar Associates in collaboration
with the business and public affairs strategy firm
ViaNovo,
to conduct follow up research. We found that
informing respondents about the contributions of NASA to their daily lives
resulted in a complete re-evaluation of the relevance of the agency
and high ratings of public support (see below.) Our
contributions to the public discussion about the U.S. Space Program are
continuing to support the development of space policy at the highest levels of
government. |

"The American people like NASA.
We recently had a polling exercise where after we did
the basic poll, we told the respondents what some of the
benefits of this program have been. You re-ask the
questions, our approval ratings get up into the
90-percent range, which is beyond extraordinary.
Different people like different parts of the space
program—that’s why we have them. But, broadly speaking,
when we do exciting, challenging manned space flight
missions, people love it."

Dittmar Associates
In 2007, Dittmar Associates teamed with Fleishman-Hillard, the global
communications and public relations firm, to support Space Florida in
development of the organization's strategic communication framework.
Fleishman-Hillard focuses on designing communications and delivering results for
their clients at the point of impact.
Dittmar Associates provided space industry and public policy expertise
to Fleishman-Hillard and the team at Space Florida. Their in-depth knowledge
of current space policy issues, industry and agency goals, and
private/public markets in Florida, the United States, and in the
international arena provided the team with a fact-based conceptual framework
from which to develop an effective, initial approach to communications and
public affairs.
--- Ann Elise Davison,
Senior Vice President & Partner

Throughout much of 2005 into 2006, Dittmar Associates worked with Strategic
Planning and development teams at Raytheon to characterize market variables and
support understanding of public policy and government agencies. In collaboration
with our client, we provided industry and agency intelligence, identified key
personnel, supported engineering analyses, and developed in-depth analysis of market forecast and programmatic
factors used by decision-makers at the company during consideration of new
strategic business initiatives.
Dittmar
Associates was a key source of customer understanding and strategy
development as we pursued a major space systems capture. Always right on the
mark in sorting out programmatic nuances and making well conceived
predictions on program stability, emerging opportunities, and competitive
standing, Dittmar Associates was a very trusted advisor.

Technology Assessment, Trade Studies, and Human Factors

Beginning in 2005
through the present in 2009, Dittmar Associates has provided engineering/operations interface support services
to the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) Engineering Directorate through our
contract with the Texas A&M University's Engineering Experiment Station.
Dittmar Associates provides technology assessment,
risk assessment, mission analysis, operations planning, and human factors requirements analysis and validation for trade studies on the
next-generation ExtraVehicular Activity (EVA) suit system.

Dittmar Associates provided an independent technical
assessment of an advanced technology tool that utilized augmented reality to
support real time troubleshooting and maintenance of aeronautical systems.
Completed in 2006, the analysis and report were key factors in decisions
pertaining to future development of the the operations support tool.

In a two-year research project designed by Dittmar Associates in
collaboration with the UTMB
Correctional Managed Care telemedicine program, our researchers conducted a
first-of-its-kind assessment of physician satisfaction, mental workload,
training, and ergonomic factors associated with the practice of telemedicine.
Completed in late 2006, the research report was published in the
Journal of Telemedicine and E-Health, an online, peer-reviewed publication
tracking the latest developments in the field.
